Familia Gonzalez de Baliuag, Bulacan

The Gonzalez and the de los Angeles families were the most prominent in Baliuag, Bulacan during the 1700s. The position of ” gobernadorcillo ” alternated between the two families for one hundred years.

They lived in a grand house ( bahay-na-bato/ mansion ) with a vast garden that occupied a whole block, some distance from the church. It was the biggest house in town. ( The house was demolished before the Second World War and the site is now occupied by the Iglesia ni Cristo ( INC ). )
Don Francisco “Balbas” Gonzalez y Reinado and his two brothers, Don Francisco “Pugot” and Don Francisco “Bungo,” transferred to Pangasinan, where they purchased a peninsular Spaniard’s vast “encomienda” ( land grant ).  In the following years, they were able to purchase large portions of Hacienda Esperanza, which the British company Smith, Bell, and Co., deaccessioned ( Hacienda Esperanza was once owned by the wealthy de Santos family of Nueva Ecija, and it was originally composed of 55,000 hectares spanning the provinces of Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan ).

Don Francisco “Balbas” Gonzalez y Reinado first married Dona Feliciana Esperanza Mondragon.  He had two sons, Matias and Joaquin.  After Dona Feliciana died, he married Dona Juana Morales y Mamaril.  They had five daughters:  Guadalupe “Upeng,” Aurea “Pipang,” Victorina “Vitoo,” Cristina “Neneng,” and Ramona “Monay.”
