Baliwag.net: The Official Online Tambayan of Baliwag is an official project of Brotherhood of Destiny, Inc. (BROOD) , a youth serving organization with address at 777 Año St., Baliwag, Bulacan. The idea of an online tambayan and website for Baliwag was conceptualized by Shen and Pwinzshady together with Rinoa and Overtkill.
VISION:
A website owned by the citizens of Baliwag which serves as an
online hub and information exchange for all Baliwagueños here and
abroad as well as a portal with people from the Philippines and the
world.MISSION:
To develop and maintain an information portal that will provide information and interaction within Baliwag and its citizens. OBJECTIVES:
- Provide timely news information about Baliwag.
- Provide information exchange venues for the citizens.
- Provide interactive facilities online that will enhance people empowerment and participation.
- Collaborate with the Local Government to promote Baliwag.
- Maintain a degree of independence and freedom of information and expression.
HISTORY:
The idea started when a student asked Shen to do a research about Baliwag and its history. It was a term paper that means to be comprehensive and complete together with general information about the town. The first source of information of course was the town's official .gov website however, the website was rarely updated and the information was very limited. Because of the eagerness to help develop an information portal and provide relevant information to the people of Baliwag here and abroad Shen through the resources of Brotherhood of Destiny (BROOD) began designing the website. This was backed up by the support of friends and peers. The first website was uploaded and put online on February 12, 2007 and was named "Baliuag Online". It was a test website which provided basic information and an online forum.
On August 2007 a plan to formally launch the website was made and it was rebranded as "Baliuag.net: The Official Online Tambayan". In order to prepare for the launch the Rock 4 Peace Battle of the Bands was conceptualized and participation with the 2008 Buntal Hat Festival was made. A new template was also released during that period.
On May 2008, Baliuag.Net joined the Buntal Hat Festival and provided information about the website to Baliwaguenos. The staff also designed the t-shirt logo which was used by the Municipal Government for their t-shirts during the launching of Revive Baliwag. It also provided documentation of the event as well as video recordings. These files were submitted to the Baliwag Tourism Council through Mrs. Arlene Tadeo. The formal launching was supposed to be done at the Glorietta Park though the Rock 4 Peace Battle of the Bands, however due to heavy rains it was transferred to Shinjuku Bar.
The website provided more than 50,000 pesos in cash prizes to the winners of the competition which includes both cash prizes and scholarship courtesy of Informatics - Malolos. The major cash prize was given by Far East Straw Hats Corporation through the late Marc de Borja and through the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP)
Baliwag.net was the first ebsite to provide FREE BUSINESS LISTING until now with paid advertisement option for front page ads. The proceeds of paid ads goes directly to the maintenance of the website. It was also the first ever community portal of Baliwag which provides frredom of information and speech.
During August 2008, Baliwag.net unveiled the launch of Baliwag.net Radio-TV . A new concept which provides live audio and video streaming for programs from the website. The first programs were made by Kuya Shen through "Gising! Gising Baliwag!" and "Music by Request" and Kuya Sablay's "Bible Reading Story" and "Liham Pag-ibig". It also encourages members to join the broadcasting pool of the website.
Baliwag.net was the first community portal and website to recognize the talents and capabilities of the youth and bands of Baliwag. It also adds to its information advocacy, an advocacy for the environment. On December 6, 2008, Baliwag.Net conducted Signos: Musika at Tugtugan Laban sa Climate Change . It was the first ever independend band concert and worldwide advocacy on the Global Day of Action Against Climate Change. It was among 1 of the 5 sites in the Philippines were celebration like this were made. Thanks to the strong support of Mr. Joel Pascual of the PESO Office, the Municipal Admin and Mayor Romy Estrella during that time.
The website also covered the opening of SM City Baliwag and provided the first look at the newest SM City.
During 2008 the website also complied with the new municipal ordinance making "Baliwag" the official name instead of the old "Baliuag". The website then launched the new domain www.baliwag.net. It still manages the old domain for purposes of history and sentimental value.
During the beginning of 2009, Baliwag.Net strengthen its brand to become, "Baliwag.Net: The Official Online Tambayan of Baliwag" and added a by-line "Your Voice, Your Site!"
To date, Baliwag.Net remains and will forever remain a website own by the community.
